There are certain trailers that provide very little information, and then there’s ones like the first for American Assassin, which is close to a short movie in itself. Based on the character created by author Vince Flynn, Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien, The Maze Runner) is a young man out for revenge.

After his fiancé is killed in a terrorist attack on a beach, Rapp is recruited into a covert operations programme, with training provided by non-other than Batman. Okay, not quite, but the hardcore Stan Hurley is played by Michael Keaton, who seems to be taking a decent turn towards action again now that he’s also playing The Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The Mitch Rapp novels are extremely popular, with IMDB noting they have sold nearly 20 million to date. With that in mind, Dylan O’Brien can be in for quite a future - if the rest of the books are picked for adaptation too.

American Assassin is dated for 15 September Stateside, and might just be a good one to watch if you need a young Jason Bourne type fix.
