Well, that’s basically another gaming year done and dusted. The annual Game Awards, held last night in Los Angeles, celebrated the top titles of 2016, with the usual suspects as well as some indie game developers making an appearance.

Whereas the gong last year belonged to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, this year's Game of the Year went to Blizzard’s massively enjoyable Overwatch. It beat out the likes of DOOM, Titanfall 2, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and indie title Inside.

Overwatch didn’t stop there, further collecting awards for developers Blizzard for Best Game Direction, Best Multiplayer and Best eSports Game. It’s a nice bag for Blizzard, showing that they were not content to rest on their WoW laurels.

One of the unexpected pleasures of the year was indie platform puzzler Inside, with developers Playdead taking the award for Best Art Direction, and, quite rightly, the Best Independent Game title.

One of our favourites of 2016 was Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. As can be expected from a Naughty Dog title, it won for Best Narrative, also snagging a Best Performance award for Nolan North as main character Nathan Drake.

If the runaway success of Pokémon Go didn’t grab it an honour there would not have been any justice in this world. Luckily it collected two – Best Mobile/Handheld and Best Family Game.

Below some further winners of the night, incorporating all the different types of genres and eSport awards.
