Garmin has announced the local availability of its Edge 20 and Edge 25, two compact, easy-to-use cycling computers. The also bear the moniker of being the world’s smallest GPS cycling computers, according to Garmin, allowing riders to capture essential data including time, distance, speed, total ascent and location in a compact robust design.

Users can connect either unit via ANT+ technology, with the Edge 25 GPS a step up, as accessories like a heart rate monitor, speed sensor and cadence sensor can be connected to it. This captured info can then be instantly shared with others on social media via the Bluetooth connected Garmin Connect smartphone app. Both the Edge 20 and Edge 25 are designed with a simple interface (pictured below) and clear IPX7-rated display which is easy to use and read on a ride, according to Garmin.

Along with being water-resistant, the Edge 20 and Edge 25 are both very lightweight, pulling the scales at 25 g. The user interface is designed to start up easily and quickly, allowing cyclists to start, save and share activities. Furthermore, with both the Edge 20 and Edge 25 being GPS and GLONASS-enabled, Garmin says acquiring satellites is quick, enabling riders to track how far, fast and where they are riding. Lastly worth mentioning is that the Edge 20 and 25 feature up to 8 hours of battery whilst paired via ANT+.  

Out of the two the Edge 25 is the standout from a features perspective. When paired with a compatible Bluetooth device, the Edge 25 can instantly upload activities to Garmin Connect for post-ride analysis, be shared on social media, and with the Live Tracking feature users can allow family and friends to follow their rides in real time. In Garmin Connect, users can also download courses and segments via a PC or Mac to the Edge 25 and follow them on the device, receiving turn-by-turn directions throughout a ride and compete against other cyclists on previously ridden courses.

Bainbridge adds that, “the Edge 20 and Edge 25 allow cyclists to track essential stats like time, distance, speed, ascent and location in a small but powerful device.”

The Edge 20 is available for a suggested retail price of R2 350 and Edge 25 is available in a HRM (Heart Rate Monitor) bundle for R3000.
