It is a question that has puzzled even the most intelligent of scholars: Who would win a fight between Godzilla and King Kong? Well, it turns out that Legendary Pictures, in collaboration with Warner Bros., wants to answer that question in 2020. The studio has a number of Godzilla and King Kong films lined up over the next few years.

In the most recent Godzilla reboot, an organisation named Monarch was introduced to audiences. This organisation is set to "continue their work" of unearthing super species, according to Legendary Pictures. As such, Monarch will come across the 16 metre tall primate King Kong in a new film titled Kong: Skull Island, which is slated for a 2017 release. The following year will see the unveiling of Godzilla 2, culminating in the ultimate face-off for Godzilla vs. Kong in 2020.

While the prospect of these two duking out sounds great, the way things stand, Godzilla certainly has the edge. He currently tops out at 140 metres (based on the 2014 film), breathes fire and took out two monsters pretty handily. If we're using Peter Jackson's film as a reference, then Kong is reaching a maximum of 16 metres in height. Consequently, King Kong will probably go through a bit of growth spurt for the 2017-dated release.

While the finer details are unknown, it seems like monster movies could be the new superhero films.
