If you were left disappointed by the meh Harry Potter: Wizards Unite game that tried to emulate Pokémon GO, then maybe have a look at what Warner Bros. Games and Avalanche have on offer.
Hogwarts Legacy, an open-world, single-player, action RPG is set in the 1800s wizarding world, as created by J.K. Rowling. Thoroughly kept under wraps, the game has now seen its first trailer.
Players will experience life as a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which looks pretty much the same as it does during Harry Potter’s time. Players are able to explore not only the school but also the surrounds on a dangerous journey to uncover a hidden truth of the wizarding world.
Developed by Avalanche and published by Warner Bros. Games under the Portkey Games label, Hogwarts Legacy will release in 2021 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One consoles, and of course PC.
Hogwarts Legacy is filled with immersive magic, putting you at the centre of an adventure to become the witch or wizard you choose to be. Players will grow their character’s abilities as they master powerful spells, hone combat skills and select companions to help them face off against deadly enemies. Players will also encounter missions and scenarios that will pose difficult choices and determine what they stand for.
Players can choose their Hogwarts house at the start of Hogwarts Legacy, and while the game is not built around an original Rowling story or film, the games are anchored in Wizarding World lore
As the climactic story begins, players grow their magical abilities by mastering spells, brewing potions and taming fantastic beasts. Along the way, they will uncover an expansive world filled with perilous dangers tied to the wizarding world’s long forgotten past and an unusual ability that only they possess. The open-world journey takes players beyond Hogwarts to new and familiar wizarding world locations including the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade Village.
"It’s such an honour to work on such an amazing franchise and the team is dedicated to delivering an authentic Wizarding World experience that both Harry Potter and RPG fans will enjoy," said John Blackburn, Studio GM of Avalanche. "Hogwarts Legacy is so special because it allows players to immerse themselves in a new narrative that is filled with complex characters, and, of course, magic.”
To us, Hogwarts Legacy definitely looks like a hit, but this will only be confirmed once the game is released somewhere in 2021. Hit play below to check for yourself.
