Hot New Movie Trailers - 14 May 2015
By Staff Writer 14 May 2015 | Categories: newsWith flying sharks, massive Grizzlies, Supergirl and Batman's butler all on the trailer menu, we recommend you sit down to start chomping.
Into the Grizzly Maze
June 2015 (United States)
Into the Grizzly Maze stars James Marsden (X-Men, The D Train) and Thomas Jane (Deep Blue Sea, The Punisher) as two estranged brothers who reunite at their childhood home in the Alaskan wild. Instead of a tense family get together, it’s rather the large and menacing Grizzly Bear that takes centre stage here. Kind of like Jaws, but set in a North American forest, this film pits man against beast, while you’re not quite sure who is hunting whom.
Best Bit: When the hunting group enters the "Kill Zone".
Search Party
June 2015 (United States)
A mash up of The Hangover and Runaway Bride, Search Party looks like some good old fashioned fun at the movies. After a botched wedding ceremony, courtesy of Silicon Valley's T.J Miller, the would-be bride heads off on her Mexican honeymoon sans groom.
It is then up to the best man, the supposed best friend and the always lovely Alison Brie (Community) to head down to Mexico, and not only save the groom, but bring the happy couple back together. As expected, nothing goes according to plan, as cocaine drug dealers and kidney stealing prostitutes get involved (obviously).
Best Bit: 1:52 for the worst surgeon ever.
Youth
20 May in Italy
Who would have thought that Batman’s butler was actually a really great composer? Fred (Michael Caine) has called it a day on his composing duties, while his best pal Mick (Harvey Keitel) needs to finish a screenplay for his final movie. They hole themselves up in the Grand Budapest Hotel and soon some interesting stuff starts happening. Youth is directed by Italian auteur, Paolo Sorrentino who directed Sean Penn/Robert Smith in This Must Be the Place, while the movie also stars one of our favourites Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood). You will find a bum at 1:10 so the trailer might just be NSFW.
Best Bit: Mick’s response to said bum at 1:10, and the duo discussing their tinkling habits at 0:53.
Supergirl
September-ish in the US
With The Flash, Arrow and now Daredevil doing just fine as TV series, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that more comic book characters are making their move to the small screen. The latest to do so is Supergirl, better known on her native planet as Kara Zor-El, Kal-El’s cousin. For us it was a bit difficult to sit through the whole six minute intro video, but we suspect we’re not really the target audience for this. Supergirl with Melissa Benoist (Whiplash) as the lead, is heading to CBS come this Spring.
Best Bit: Definitely not where the music kicks in at 5:35.
Crimson Peak
October 2015 (United Kingdom)
From the brilliant mind of Guillermo del Toro (Mimic, Hellboy), comes this gothic horror tale of a love tragedy - Crimson Peak. A new full length trailer for the film has debuted, as Lady Lucille Sharpe (Jessica Chastain), Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston) and Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska) are involved in a rather intense love triangle that endures from beyond the grave. When Cushing joins her new husband (and his creepy sister), something sinister seems to lurk behind every corner of the macabre house they now live in. There seems to be something far greater to it, as Sir Sharpe calls their house "a living thing."
Best Bit: 1:55 as the floorboards spring to life.
Glass Chin
June in the States
Former boxing champ, Bud Gordon (Corey Stoll, The Bourne Legacy) has seen better days and is taken in by the charms of all-round smooth talker and crook, J.J. Cook (Billy Crudup). Soon he finds himself framed for murder and has to prove his innocence. While the premise is not new, the trailer slices in some action from an upcoming boxing match to cook up what looks like a flick that might just be a surprise hit (no pun intended).
Best Bit: J.J. Cook discussing his company’s health plan at 0:30.
Sky Sharks
Unknown
Forget Snakes on a Plane!, how about Sharks? Scientists uncover a hidden Nazi lair filled with weapons of mass destruction, or rather flying sharks and zombies. Now that they are free and attacking planes, only the Dead Flesh Four can stop them. Currently Sky Sharks is still stuck in funding limbo over at Kickstarter. Click on the trailer below to see if you want to make this happen.
Best Bit: When the titular sharks pitch up at 0:46.
