At this stage of the year, Oscar hopeful movies rarely get released, but Loving might just be the exception. The film is directed by Jeff Nichols (Mud, Take Shelter), and tells the real-life story of Richard and Mildred Loving, played by Joel Edgerton (Warrior, The Great Gatsby) and Ruth Negga (Warcraft: The Beginning, World War Z) respectively.

An interracial couple that fought to stay married and raise their family during the 1950s and 60s in Virginia, United States, their battle took them all the way to the US Supreme Court in 1967.

In subsequent years, the case has often been cited by American interracial couples as they too sought to establish their right to marry. The film is set for release early next year, 3 February in the UK, and should make for an intensely riveting watch, if the trailer below is anything to go by.
