Iconic Olympian Jesse Owens' story showcased in new Race biopic trailer
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 15 October 2015 | Categories: newsAnyone familiar with the history of the Olympics will undoubtedly know the story of Jesse Owens, an African-American athlete that captured the world's attention at the 1936 Games held in Berlin, Germany. Now his story is coming to the big screen in the form of a biopic named Race.
Prior to the Games, Adolf Hitler declared caucasians the superior race in every aspect, but Owens shattered his worldview by winning four gold medals, in the 100 m, 200 m, 4x100 m relay and long jump.
The film stars relative newbie Stephan James (Selma, Home Again) as Owens, chronicling his journey to the 1936 Games, starting off with his athletic career at Ohio State University. Joining James is a strong cast, with the likes of Jeremy Irons (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Assassin's Creed), William Hurt (The Village, History of Violence) and Jason Sudeikis (The Millers, Horrible Bosses). The film is slated for release in 2016, hitting German theatres in May.
