It looks like Legendary Pictures' plan to develop a live action Pokémon movie is gathering momentum. The studio has already roped in two writers to pen the project, and now the first casting decision for the film has been made, with Justice Smith (The Get Up) set to feature, according to Variety.

For the moment, it's unknown what role Smith will be playing in the Detective Pikachu movie, but it has been suggested that he may be voicing the titular character, although it remains unclear how fans of the iconic Pokémon will react to him having an English-speaking voice.

Also interesting to see, will be the reaction to the film itself when it releases late next year, with video game adaptations in the past faring quite poorly at the box office and with critics. Still, if anyone can buck the trend, it's Pikachu.
