LG may be switching to OLED display for next flagship phone
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 17 May 2017 | Categories: newsRight now LG only has one true flagship, the LG G6, but for us the LG V20 is fairly comparable. The latter device has routinely been unveiled in the second half of the year, touting elements that the South Korean manufacturer aims to test out and then integrate into the more mainstream G-series offering such as the second screen.
As for what this year's next model, the V30 (we're assuming) will feature, reports in South Korea suggest an OLED display being on the table. The Korea Herald is making the claim, citing that the move from LCD to OLED could be a permanent one looking forward, set to feature both on the V30 and next year's G7 (unofficial name).
With OLED a key aspect for many of the company's premium TVs, adopting a similar screen technology for their smartphones makes a lot of sense. It would also differentiate the V30 and G7 from competitor devices, with the likes of Apple and Huawei currently using it for their flagships.
As for when we could see OLED make its appearance, the LG V30 is expected to debut in September this year, around the same time as IFA. Whether or not competitors follow suit, remains to be seen.
