Arguably Sony Pictures' greatest superhero franchise, it appears as if Spider-Man, along with his arachnid-like abilities, is also impervious to reboots, as a new lead actor and director have been found for the 28 July 2017-slated release.

Following a worldwide casting search, Tom Holland (In the Heart of the Sea, Pilgrimage) has nabbed the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Calling the shots behind the camera will be Jon Watts (Cop Car, Clown), as the pair easily take on their biggest movie roles to date. With Spider-Man set to join the much larger Marvel Universe of movies, there will be a little more added pressure for this reboot to do well, especially as The Amazing Spider-Man films did not quite live up to the hype.

We're a bit sad to be honest, that Marvel decided to stick with the Peter Parker narrative, especially as the reimagined world of Miles Morales as Spider-Man looked a far more interesting story to tell. Morales has replaced Parker as Marvel's go-to Spider-Man in the company's comic book universe following the events of its Civil War series, and the prospect of a mixed race superhero would've been a nice change.

Having grossed an estimated $4 billion to date since the Spider-Man franchise launched almost 13 years ago, it should prove interesting how this reboot fares when it releases on 28 July 2017.
