Coogler has long been rumoured to direct the film, but this announcement makes it official. As for what the Black Panther film holds in store, little is known at this stage. Considering Civil War, out 5 May this year, will be the first time Black Panther is seen on screen, a fully fledged origin story seems a tad redundant. That said, to do the character justice, an origin story is most likely on the cards, especially given the range of Black Panthers powers, which are indeed comparable to that of Captain America himself. Either way, it should prove interesting to see how an exciting young director like Coogler will tackle the project.
