We're done with superhero movies for 2017, with DC's Justice League closing out the year. In riposte, Marvel Studios has a big 2018 planned, with Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War hitting cinemas, along with it being the 10th year anniversary of Iron Man, the film that kicked off the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe).

Next year also begins the start of Marvel Studios' next phase of superhero films, the company revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair. As such it will spell the end for a number of characters, with actor/actress contracts also coming to an end, which means a new generation of superheroes will need to keep things going. The new crop of stars will include the likes of Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange and Black Panther, but who else will join them?

While Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is not detailing the characters they'll be moving forward with, but he did tell Vanity Fair that the next slate of films will be a significant departure from the 22 movies that the studio has released to date. "We’ve got another 20 movies on the docket that are completely different from anything that’s come before — intentionally," shares Feige.

It seems then that Infinity War saga will be a watershed moment for Marvel Studios, greatly affecting the cinematic Universe that the company has crafted to date. "There will be two distinct periods. Everything before Avengers 4 (Infinity War Part 2) and everything after," Feige concludes.
