Microsoft may reveal new Surface devices this year, with more planned for 2017
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 4 July 2016 | Categories: newsDespite its best efforts, Microsoft failed to make a lasting impression when it took over Nokia's Lumia smartphone brand and began making devices of their own. To that end, the company would be selling off parts of its mobile business. Now, the company has reportedly shifted focus back to its own Surface offerings, and readying a number of new devices in the process.
According to Indian app developer Shubhan Chemburkur, there is one new Surface-branded device ready and waiting for release this year, with a few more waiting to debut in 2017. This came after Chemburkur recently visited Microsoft's Building 88, at the company's Redmond-based campus.
There, he spotted a Surface product display wall, which featured images of the Surface Book and Surface Pro 4. These were accompanied by silhouettes of other undisclosed tablet-hybrid devices with 2016 and 2017 written on them.

While this could be pure conjecture at this point, it would make sense that Microsoft is reaffirming its position in the notebook and tablet space, especially as the Surface division was one of the few positively performing product silos in the company's recent Q2 2016 earnings.
