Over the past few months, Netflix's ongoing feud with the Cannes film festival has seen the streaming service pull several of its projects from contention, following the announcement that none of their original movies would be nominated for the Cannes Palm d'Or. Now Netflix has lineup up two recent Cannes award winning films for its platform, announcing that Alice Rohrwacher's Happy as Lazzaro and Lukas Dhont's Girl would be added to the streaming service’s offering.

At this stage, it's unclear when either film would be available to stream on Netflix, but this move to purchase award winning movies instead of showing them at Cannes may be the best solution, as the company has no definite plans to present its original projects at conventional cinemas, as required by Cannes.   

Whether Netflix will continue with this tactic for future Cannes festivals remains to be seen, but if the company really wants to stick it to the Festival de Cannes, how about buying this year's Palm d'Or winner Shoplifters, by Hirokazu Kore-edu.
