New Lord of the Rings book, The Fall of Gondolin, arriving this year
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 11 April 2018 | Categories: newsThe world of Middle-Earth that J.R.R Tolkien created is rich for mining. So much so that a posthumous book is being published titled The Fall of Gondolin. The book is penned in majority by the English writer, with his son Christopher Tolkien taking care of the editing duties. The Fall of Gondolin is set for release later this year, but a more precise date of availability has not been mentioned yet.
As one may be able to gauge from the title, it will deal with the city of Gondolin, and the part that a reluctant hero will play in trying to save it. It is also said to be the largest narrative created by Tolkien outside of The Lord of the Rings, according to John Garth, author of Tolkien and the Great War. "It has a dark lord, our first encounter with orcs and balrogs - it’s really Tolkien limbering up for what he would be doing later," adds Garth.
The book will also form the conclusion of a trilogy of stories from The Silmarillion. Hopefully director Peter Jackson will deem it worthy enough to adapt into a movie.
