The GoPro Hero4 is still the gold standard in action cameras for many, but it's already 18 months old. To that end, a recent GoPro FCC filing discovered by Engadget, has lead them to believe that the next iteration will feature GPS, along with a few subtle improvements. 

The Hero5, as it will likely be called, will have built-in GPS onboard. The precise reason for its integration is not disclosed, but it may come in handy for tracking an action cam wearer, or indeed determine statistics like distance travelled while recording and geolocation abilities for videos. 

Added to this, the Hero5 is said to sport a thinner and lighter body. Whether it comes close to the lightweight Hero4 Session camera, however, remains to be seen. There is some indication of how the Hero5's onboard system will work though, as Reddit user Konrad-iturbe posted a video on vimeo supposedly showing off the action cameras setup functions. 

Watch the video after the break and you'll notice a peculiar GoPro Sniper option, but what it does remains unknown. Perhaps a new shooting mode? The Hero5 is expected to launch later this year, an exact date has not been revealed by GoPro yet.
