SA comic book artist scores Marvel Champions
By Staff Writer 23 January 2018 | Categories: newsWe’ve been tracking South African comic book artist Sean Izaakse’s career for a while now, and he has now reached another big milestone, having been selected to draw the new Marvel Champions series. CBR.com broke the news yesterday, noting that he’ll be teaming up with writer Jim Zub, who was busy previously on Avengers: No Surrender, Uncanny Avengers and Samurai Jack.
The Champions first debuted in October 2016, being the creation of comic book great Mark Waid and artist Humberto Ramos. Appearing after the events of Civil War II, the Champions are a team of teenage superheroes who made the split from the Avengers after becoming totally disillusioned with their older compatriots’ shenanigans.
The first issue of the Zub/Izaakse team-up will be Marvel Champions Issue #19, which will land in April.
For Izaakse, Marvel Champions should be right up his alley, since he has noted that the Teen Titans were his favourite comics growing up. We wish him the best of luck for all the long hours ahead.
Thanks for all the comments on the news of us taking over The Champions. Can’t reply now cos deadlines don’t wait for no one. But when I come up for air I’ll thank you even more!! Very excited to work on these characters with the team!
