Entering the category of heartwarming gaming related news for the week, comes this announcement: Ster-Kinekor Entertainment (SKE) has pledged that R10 from every Pure Farming 2018 game sold will be donated to the Drought Relief Fund. This is set to assist South African farmers during the current drought.

Ronelle Hendriks, independent product manager at Ster-Kinekor Entertainment, explained that the idea came from the game itself, which offers Daily Farming Challenges. More particularly, one of the in-game challenge requires players to maintain their farm during a water crisis – which, she noted, is very relevant to the current situation in South Africa.

“With SA in the grip of a terrible drought economists have predicted a severe impact on the farming community as well as food security in the country, and so it is important that all South Africans rally to the aid of the farmers,” she elaborated.

“Ster-Kinekor Entertainment has a strong set of values that we strive to live by every day, and at the top of that list is to do the right thing, always. With the assistance from Techland Publishing, the publisher behind this game, we have been given the opportunity to give back to our farmers that do so much for this country and our people,” continued Hendriks.

Christo van der Rheede, Agri SA’s deputy executive director, is delighted by Ster-Kinekor Entertainment’s contribution to its Drought Relief Fund. “We trust that through this game, on its virtual platform, we will see growth of future farmers and an understanding of the challenges and opportunities everyday farmers face. The severe drought experienced in various provinces of SA still calls for intervention on a daily basis. This contribution will make a remarkable difference in the lives of our farmers, farm workers and farming communities,” says Van der Rheede.

Hendriks added that SKE are aiming for a donation target of R35 000, and are hoping South Africans will help them reach this number when the game becomes available on the 13th of March.
