One of the big talking points leading up to the release of the iPhone X last year, was the device featuring an OLED display. Apple turned to Samsung to produce the screens for its latest flagship, but it appears as if far fewer panels will coming from the South Korean manufacturer in future.

This according to a report from the Nikkei Asian Review, which says that instead of the 45 to 50 million panels created for the previous quarter, Samsung will be producing around 20 million. The decrease in numbers makes sense, since it is also reported that Apple halved the amount of iPhone X devices it initially planned to make due to lower than expected uptake from consumers.

As such, we could not only see less iPhone X devices in the coming year, it may also mean that Apple's new smartphones for 2018 will revert to their old display panel technology. Alternatively, Apple could have to look at other suppliers if it aims to maintain its current OLED course.
