It's the 1st of Feb, which means invitations will begin rolling out for this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) event in Barcelona, Spain. As was the case last year, Samsung is aiming to be the first manufacturer out of the starting blocks, dating its own Galaxy Unpacked event for 21 February. The event will be livestreamed on Samsung's Mobile YouTube channel at 20:00 PM CAT on the day, with the rumoured Galaxy S7 the expected arrival.

There has been much conjecture as to what the new Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will bring to the fore, especially as last year's iterations proved a critical success. The pressure is now on Samsung to deliver the goods for a second year in a row.

As far as what we know about "The Next Galaxy," little is confirmed. There have been reports that the design for the device has not changed much from the model 12 months ago, but instead there’s a focus on improving some functionality. As such, rumours suggest the new S7 will feature a pressure sensitive display, á la the iPhone 6s, as well as the return of a microSD slot. There could also be further use in the world of VR, as the announcement video below showcases a Gear VR headset.

Either way, the South Korean manufacturer is aiming to make a big impression once again at this year's MWC. Stay tuned for further details.
