Some of the greatest apps out there evolved from their original conception into something completely different. Whether or not Sean Parker's (of Napster  and Facebook fame) Airtime app can do the same thing remains to be seen. Airtime started off life four years ago as a desktop bound Chat Roulette-esque website, now its creator is rebranding Airtime as a mobile app designed to facilitate live sharing between users.

The app launches on iOS and Android today, mashing together several well known social media aspects to create one do-it-all super app. Parker expanded on the purpose behind Airtime in an interview with Techcrunch, noting a greater focus on privacy and "intimacy" between users. As such, users can have shared online space via Airtime, where they can IM (instant message) with one another, share photos or live stream video.

While Airtime is seemingly copying many of the popular social media apps out there at the moment, namely WhatsApp and SnapChat, building a strong community of users will be critical in the coming months. Especially if Parker wishes the rebirth of Airtime to be successful.
