Several top ranking apps now free on Apple App Store
By Ryan Noik 8 July 2013 | Categories: newsHere is some good news to take the edge off a Monday morning – a number of top ranking apps have appeared on Apple’s app store for free.
The apps on offer span a range of genres, including games, photo manipulation, music mixing, note-taking and reference.
More specifically, the apps have had their prices slashed to zero, apparently ahead of the App Store’s five year anniversary. The apps that can be downloaded gratis include Traktor DJ (for remixing music tracks), Day One (journaling and note-taking), the self-explanatory Barefoot World Atlas, and Over, which enables you to add text and artwork to your photos and then share the result on your social networks.
Get your game on
Also on offer are several games, the likes of Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP, Where’s My Water?, Infinity Blade II, Tiny Wings and Badland. You may, however, need to sign into or create a US account to access these, if you don’t have one already.
While we can’t tell exactly how much of a saving all of these apps would amount to, as their prices have been replaced with the free label, it’s quite clear that each is a well respected app or game, and not ‘dumpware’ or just some junk dumped into a sale bin that wasn’t doing well anyway.
Additionally, if you are conserving space on your iPad or pushing the limit, you may be glad to note that most of the apps aren’t terribly big either, with the exception of Barefoot World Atlas (1 GB). As expected, some of the games may take up more space such as Infinity Blade II’s 1.1 GB size, although Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP and Badland are a more manageable 156 MB and 125 MB respectively.
To the point
The interesting part is that these apps have gone free without any fanfare from Apple’s side. Whether they are part of an official celebration or not, or the harbinger of some special sale that has yet to be announced, they are still well worth a download if you don’t have them already.
