Sony announces plan to build robot that can form emotional bonds
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 29 June 2016 | Categories: newsWill robots soon be better at being human than actual humans?
If that does indeed happen, it all began at Sony. According to The Verge, the Japanese company is currently working on a robot that is capable of forming emotional bonds. This new robot (codename and designation unknown) is one of the first publically disclosed projects that Sony's recently formed robotic division is working on.
The news was confirmed via a Sony strategy meeting held in Tokyo earlier this week, where CEO Kaz Hirai, noted that the robotic division, created in April this year, was working towards a business launch.
Precisely what guise this emotional robot will take is yet to be confirmed, but many are hoping that it surpasses the level of emotionality that SoftBank's Pepper robot currently displays. While we're unsure if Sony's new robot will take on a humanoid form, the company could also be served well with animal-look , akin to their loveable AIBO dogs of the past.
