If you’ve been enjoying Spotify since is launch locally, you’ll love the following news. The music streaming service has launched personalised playlist ‘Discover Weekly’ in South Africa. Updated every Monday morning, Discover Weekly brings listeners a custom-made, 30-song playlist tailored specifically to your musical taste to help them find a new favourite artist.

Spotify users will receive a Discover Weekly playlist automatically, and all that’s required is that they simply keep on listening to the music they love on Spotify. Spotify will create a playlist of new music and artists based on these listening habits: the playlists created, the tracks skipped or loved, and how frequently they listen to a specific track or artist.

Discover Weekly will also include tracks based on what fans with similar music tastes are enjoying right now. This means every song in Discover Weekly is based both on their own listening patterns as well as what others are playlisting and listening to. This of course increases the chances of finding something new to love.

Spotify likens it to having your best friend make you a personalised mixtape at the start of the week.

As a listener’s music taste evolves, so will Discover Weekly, since the more you listen, the better it gets to know you. Because it’s a playlist you can access, you can listen to it across all your platforms and devices.

High Fidelity’s Rob Gordon had it right - the making of a mixtape is a very subtle art. That’s why we created Discover Weekly,” says Gustav Söderström, VP of product at Spotify. “There’s never been a simpler, more personalised way to discover music, with every playlist tuned just to you every single week.”

Spotify notes that listeners must remember to save new favourites to a playlist before the end of the week before Discover Weekly is refreshed with new music.

Those not yet on Spotify can download the Spotify app via the Android or iOS app store or by heading to www.spotify.com.
