Steam has had to deal with some serious issues on its site of late. Earlier in the year the company was viewed as being too vague when it came to visual comics on its platform, which was then followed by being too slow to act when a school shooting game appeared. Now it appears as if Steam is still unable to get things right, with the company recently announcing several sweeping changes to the types of content allowed on its platform.

In a blog post, Steam notes that it will allow anything on its site, with the only exceptions being content that is "straight up trolling" or illegal. Added to this will be tools to allow users not to see games that they don't like.

This essentially becomes a hands-off approach from Steam, with users now responsible for moderating what pops up on the platform. It can be be interpreted as  a lack of accountability on their part. "Taking this approach allows us to focus less on trying to police what should be on Steam, and more on building those tools to give people control over what kinds of content they see," says Valve business head Erik Johnson.

For many, this approach is simply not good enough and fails to handle the concerns of the Valve gaming community, as Polygon so aptly points out. "Valve isn’t picking a side, because that would mean turning down money from someone," writes Ben Kuchera.
