The week's best new trailers - 20 April 2018By Staff Writer 20 April 2018 | Categories: news
With our Avengers: Infinity War blinders on, it's hard to think about another film at the moment. That said, a bunch of new trailers dropped this week serving up glimpses at some very intriguing films.
So apart from Infinity War, Deadpool 2 is certainly the most anticipated comic book title of 2018. If it lives up to the hype from the trailers, it should be good. Really good. Tempting us some more is the final trailer before its release, with the Merc with the Mouth (Ryan Reynolds) taking us behind the scenes to his requirement process for his “super-duper f*cking group”. Let’s be honest though, it’s Peter (Rob Delaney (Catastrophe) that’s the star of the show, a man not looking for anything except a bit of adventure. Follow Peter on Twitter here.
Release date: 18 May 2018
Best bit: The jabs at DC.
Hotel Artemis should not be confused with Hotel Budapest. There’s no quirky bell boys, eccentric quests or soft colour palette here. Rather, you will only go to Hotel Artemis if you are a criminal in need or serious medical attention. Don’t worry, the Nurse (Jodie Foster, Contact) will look after you, as long as you obey the rules. Hotel Artemis features a bunch of our favourites including Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Jeff Goldblum (The Fly), Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Sofia Boutella (Atomic Blonde), who now seems to be the go to girl for action titles.
Release date: 20 July 2018 (United Kingdom)
Best bit: When Jeff Goldblum enters the fray.
The Equalizer 2
Yes, Denzel Washington is back to bring Jason Bourne-style justice to the streets. The work he started in the first Equalizer flick is far from over, as all the bad guys he killed have friends that are out for blood for this latest venture. Needless to say, Washington looks ready to take the challenge head on in the first trailer for the Equalizer 2.
Release date: 24 August 2018
Best bit: "You're going to war with me!"
Anon stars Clive Owen (Closer) in this alternate version of the modern day world, where anonymity and privacy are no longer an option. This as every person's eyes have been modified to record everything that they see. Owen's detective character, however, is suffering from hallucinations, and has seemingly been hacked by unknown source. As such, the chase is on.
Release date: 4 May 2018 (Global)
Best bit: An interesting premise.
The first trailer for The Innocents starts off as a usual murder mystery, as a young girl named June (Sorcha Groundsell, Clique) and her boyfriend decide to run off and start a new life together. Unfortunately June encounters a stranger, but their meeting does not go as we thought it would. Instead June discovers that she has the ability to swop bodies with other people. The rest of the series will try to uncover how and why she's able to do so.
Release date: 24 August 2018 (Global)
Best bit: The reveal at 1:17.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Are you ready for some more dinosaurs? Yeah, we can’t seem to muster the enthusiasm either. Nonetheless, the final trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has dropped. It shows a lot more of what is Owen (Chris Pratt), Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) and Blue will get up to as the island of Isla Nublar is about to be disintegrated.
Release date: 8 June 2018
Best bit: Something fishy at 1:34.
2001: A Space Odyssey
When we first saw the thumbnail for 2001: A Space Odyssey pop up on YouTube, our initial thought was that Hollywood had stupidly tried to remake one of the most iconic films to date. Thankfully that isn't the case here, with 2001: A Space Odyssey getting a reprinting on 70 mm film. It will screen in special theatres Stateside, which likely means local viewings are out of the question sadly.
Release date: TBC
Best bit: When the iconic soundtrack kicks in.
