The week's best trailers - 22 September 2017
By Staff Writer 22 September 2017 | Categories: NewsThis past week has given us quite a few trailers to fawn over. We got our first official look at Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl) as the new Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, as well as Wes Anderson's (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Royal Tenenbaums) Isle of Dogs animated movie. Other notable trailers include Marvel's The Punisher, along with James Corden (The Late Late Show) voicing Peter Rabbit. As such, there's a good mix to enjoy below.
When it comes to gaming pop culture icons, few are as well-known as Lara Croft, with different interpretations of the character over the years. Now it's the turn of Oscar winner Alicia Vikander to take on the role, with the first trailer for Tomb Raider landing online this week. Taking inspiration from the 2013 game reboot, will it be a hit, or another of those video game movies?
Release date: 16 March 2018 (United States)
Best bit: All the death defying stunts.
If your hipster mustache has been itching for a new Wes Anderson movie, then the trailer for Isle of Dogs is exactly what you're looking for. Created in the same animation style as Anderson's take for Fantastic Mr. Fox, this latest project appears to be as subtly charming as the rest of his films.
Release date: 23 March 2018 (United States)
Best bit: Finding out garbage is an acquired taste.
We always assumed that Peter Rabbit, of Beatrix Potter fame, was a shy and soft spoken animal. As it turns out, he's a bit of a party animal, if the first trailer for the Peter Rabbit film is anything to go by. Voiced by James Corden from Carpool Karaoke, this rabbit and his band of woodland friends seem up to no good.
Release date: 9 February 2018
Best bit: Deer stuck in the headlights at 1:32.
Netflix has been on a bit of a cold streak lately when it comes to its Marvel TV series, but The Punisher may solve that fairly quickly. Starring Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, who stole the show in his Daredevil cameo, The Punisher looks as brutal as the name suggests. Out for revenge, this looks like one series that action fans will be lapping up.
Release date: TBC (2017)
Best bit: The iconic skull at 0:52.
The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)
Written and directed by Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale, Greenberg), The Meyerowitz Stories deals with an interesting, and often frayed, family dynamic. With Dustin Hoffman, Ben Stiller and Adam Sandler all starring, this Netflix original should be equal parts drama and humour.
Release date: 13 October 2017 (Global)
Best bit: Hoffman's opening fish joke.
