WhatsApp releases new desktop app for Windows and OS X
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 11 May 2016 | Categories: newsAfter encrypting all conversations, WhatsApp has made some further improvements, specifically for users on a desktop computer. The Facebook-owned instant messaging platform has introduced a new desktop app for Windows and Mac. Similar to WhatsApp Web, this new platform acts as an extension of one's mobile device and the WhatsApp conversations and contact thereof.
The look and feel also mirrors that of its smartphone (iOS, Android and Windows Phone) brethren, only on a larger format. WhatsApp recently stated on its blog that the desktop version is available to all users with a computer sporting Windows 8 and higher, or Mac OS 10.9 and greater.
Users can download the app here. Once downloaded it will require the use of one's smartphone to scan a QR code with the WhatsApp application open. From there, you'll need to look for the Web tab in the settings menu and you should be good to go.
