Hoarders are often lambasted for not knowing when to let go, but Brazilian businessman Zero Freitas has turned his obsessive tendencies and innate love for music into the world's largest vinyl collection. Having truly started his collecting efforts at the age of 30, Freitas has amassed a total of 5 million vinyl records, now aged 61. BBC Magazine recently profiled the Sao Paulo native, where he discusses his love of music and how he was able to turn his passion into a truly impressive collection.

Now nearing retirement, Freitas wants to turn his immense collection of vinyl into a public, non-profit library for other Sao Paulo residents and those in and around the Brazilian capital to enjoy. This initiative is motivated by two reasons. As his collection continues to grow, the warehouse that holds the more than 5 million records is viewed as a bit of a wasted space in Freitas' view. Also, the purchasing of vinyl records, and indeed their existence on the whole, is quite rare these days, so a public library would make a forgotten medium more accessible to people, according to Freitas.

As evidenced by the video below, his intense passion for music is clear to see. When a record starts playing he closes his eyes and tilts his head upwards as he mouths the lyrics, and after the record ends sheds a tear from time to time.
