The world of sneakers is much like the world of cars. Innovative designs and eye-catching features are often praised, but its the more classic looks that are highly coveted. The new Orphe LED light-up sneakers fall somewhere in the middle. Designed in conjunction with Japanese startup brand No New Folk, the Orphe is a prototype concept currently sourcing funding on Indiegogo.

The sneaker itself is almost an homage to the pressure sensitive sneakers you used to wear as a young kid. Those lucky enough to sport a pair on the playground seemed to garner all kinds of attention from jealous onlookers. As time passed, your sneaker sensibilities have no doubt become far more saner, but the Orphe sneakers could come in handy next time you head to a glow stick rave.

The Orphe sneakers houses a series of motion sensors and LED lights, both of which can be programmed to light up according to specific movements or user-chosen patterns. According to its creator, the Orphe is a "smart shoe system designed for artists and performers," and if the video below is anything to go by, it puts on quite the kaleidoscopic show.

Whether or not the LED light-up sneaker craze catches on remains to be seen, but Orphe is currently available to purchase through Indiegogo at $270 a pop. Interested patrons can also donate to their crowdfunding efforts, which sits at 43% of their $300 000 funding goal.
