In December last year, Yahoo detailed a significant data breach that affected an estimated one billion user accounts. As it turns out, those numbers were greatly misreported, with a recent announcement noting that all the Yahoo user accounts were affected in the breach. The news comes via Oath, the Verizon-owned company that Yahoo is now a part of.

Ever since the initial report of the breach, the number of affected user accounts have continued to grow, but now it appears that anyone with a Yahoo profile was impacted by the data breach. As such, it's fairly disconcerting news for those who make use of its services.

Last year, Yahoo noted that the data breach was able to gain access to sensitive details from users, including names, email addresses, passwords, as well as encrypted and unencrypted information.

As for what this latest development means for users who have still retained their Yahoo account, little is known, but Oath has noted that steps have been taken to enhance the company's level of security. "Our investment in Yahoo is allowing that team to continue to take significant steps to enhance their security, as well as benefit from Verizon's experience and resources," said Chandra McMahon, chief information security officer at Verizon.
