Phoenix Software announced today that it will make AVG Internet Security locally available from 1 October 2009.

The software will be sold off the shelf by retailer such as Incredible Connection and CNA. Phoenix is however launching a local mirror AVG website off which users can download the software and receive software updates.

Consumers will be able to buy the product on optical disks or USB memory sticks, which is handy for installations on PCs lacking optical drives. “This is a ‘lean’ model which limits inventory in the supply chain; as a result, the AVG product will be competitively priced on retail shelves,” explains Simon Campbell-Young, MD of Phoenix Software.

While no recommended price for retail stores has been released as yet, AVG 8.5 can be downloaded from www.avgsecurity.co.za and will cost R 399.99 for a single user licence. While there are 30 day trial versions of AVG software available on the local site, we didn\'t see any free versions licking about.
