LG’s Optimus 4X HD isn’t the only new smartphone to sport Nvidia’s 1.5 GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor, as HTC’s newly announced One X smartphone is also powered by the world’s only 4-PLUS-1 quad-core processor.

This is HTC’s first smartphone that boasts a Tegra mobile CPU, and was unveiled at the 2012 Mobile World Congress, currently underway in Barcelona, Spain. Nvidia’s Tegra 3 processor employs four main CPU cores for demanding tasks such as mobile games, whilst relying on its fifth battery saver core for less demanding tasks that includes active standby mode. The Tegra 3 also features a 12-core GPU (graphics processing unit) that Nvidia says will bring “console-quality gaming” to smartphones.

The One X (134.36 x 69.9 x 8.9 mm, 130 g) operates on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and features a large 4.7" (720 x 1280 resolution) touchscreen, as well as Beats Audio just like the HTC Sensation XE.

Also onboard is a 1800 mAh battery, NFC (near field communication), as well as a 8 MP auto-focus rear-facing camera with smart LED flash and BSI (backside illumination) sensor for better low-light image capturing. Besides the rear-facing camera that can record full HD (1080p) videos, HTC also added a 1.3 megapixel front-facing snapper for taking self-portrait shots and making HD-Ready (720p) video calls.

“The HTC One X with Tegra 3 provides an experience that consumers will absolutely love,” stated Kouji Kodera, chief product officer at HTC. “We knew our next super phone had to be fantastic. That’s why we chose to work with Nvidia.”
