Sega has announced that it will be releasing a video game based on Marvel Entertainment’s Captain America. Captain America: Super Soldier will take place within a World War II setting.

Players will be able to fill the boots of the comic book hero in order to take on the Red Skull and his army, within this third-person action adventure title. The storyline behind the game is being put together by Christos Gage, who is also the primary writer responsible for Marvel’s Avengers: The Initiative series of comics.

“Videogame players the world over can now become Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Captain America,” said Gary Knight, senior vice president of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA America.

“Captain America: Super Soldier puts players in the boots of the ultimate Super-Soldier, wielding Captain America’s legendary shield. Working closely with Marvel ensures we’re delivering the calibre product that gamers and comic fans deserve and it’s a partnership we’re proud of here at SEGA.”

Captain America joins the list of comic book heroes making an appearance in the video game world, with Sega also announcing in July that they will be bringing the mythical Thor to virtual life. Captain America: Super Soldier will be released in 2011 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable (PSP) system, Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS.
