LaCie, a manufacturer of data storage devices, yesterday announced its new LaCie Starck Mobile 3.0, a 500 GB portable hard drive equipped with the super fast USB 3.0 technology.

Reaching speeds of up to ten times faster than that of previous USB 2.0 devices, the Starck Mobile is helping to usher in the new USB 3.0 data transfer standard.

LaCie is also well known for its fashionable designs, with the LaCie Starck being created by award-winning designer Philippe Starck, who has also been involved in previous LaCie designs.

The device looks good, but in the end it comes down to performance, and it seems like the Starck won't disappoint. The device is backwards compatible with USB 2.0, ensuring seamless connectivity to any PC or Mac. It is also encased in a 2 mm thick aluminium casing, making it more resistant to drops, giving it improved heat dissipation and making it fully recyclable at the end of its life.

The device also comes bundled with the LaCie Setup Assistant software enabling easy installation and backup while buyers of the device will also receive 10 GB of Wuala Online storage space for one year, enabling them to store, share and sync their data online.

The LaCie Starck Mobile USB 3.0 is available through the LaCie Online Store as well as LaCie resellers for a recommended retail price of £89.90 (R989).
