Nude Playboy magazine heading to the iPad
By Johan Keyter 19 January 2011 | Categories: newsAccording to recent tweets by the man who introduced the world to “naughty reading” in the form of Playboy magazine, Apple's iPad may soon be playing host to a virtual collection of sultry pin-ups.
Hugh Hefner himself posted the following tweet on micro blogging website Twitter today, “Big news! Playboy-both old & new-will be available on iPad beginning March.”
If the tweet holds true this would be an interesting step for Apple, since company CEO Steve Jobs, on sick leave at the moment, previously said that it would not allow porn to be distributed on any of its devices.
There already exists a Playboy app for the iPhone and iPad, but this is a censored version showcasing only lingerie shots and interviews, not the kind of content Playboy subscribers are known to go after.
Hefner backed up his previous tweet with more news, saying that “all the back issues of Playboy will be available on iPad & current issues as well.” He also added that “Playboy on iPad will be uncensored.”
This means that users will have access to all Playboy issues dating all the way back to its founding in 1953 and that Apple has apparently taken a new stance on its sexual content policies.
If Hefner's claim holds true the Playboy iPad app should be available for download sometime during March. It is still unclear how much it would cost, but you can bet it won't be one of the cheaper apps on offer.
UPDATE: It appears that there will indeed not be a Playboy iPad application available, instead a web-based subscription for the magazine will be coming out which will be iPad compatible.
