By Hanleigh Daniels 25 September 2012 | Categories: newsOpera Software’s Opera Mini and Mobile browsers are currently the third most utilised mobile browsers around the globe, and the Norwegian firm is looking to boost the adoption rate of Opera Mini especially amongst Android users via a new software update.
Version 7.5 makes Opera Software’s Smart Page functionality, introduced in version 7 for feature phones, available to smartphones and tablets powered by Google’s Android mobile operating system (OS). This new feature will provide users with an overview of the latest notifications and info from their most used social networks, news-, sports-, as well as entertainment websites.
The firm asserts that this feature “learns” what a users likes over time, in order to deliver the updated info automatically within a dashboard view. Users can download (less than 1 MB) Opera Mini 7.5 from Google’s Play for devices running Android 1.5 (Cupcake) and higher.
Beyond Smart Page, Opera Mini 7.5 for Android also offers quicker browsing speeds due to webpages being compressed by up to 90% of their original sizes, which also enables cost savings since users utilise less data for web browsing. In addition, Opera Link allows users to synchronise their Speed Dials, bookmarks, passwords as well as their browser settings across all of their mobile devices and PCs.
