Following Sony’s announcement that it would be bringing 3D Blu-Ray functionality to the PlayStation 3 console via a software update last week, the company has now let it loose on the market.

According to the official PlayStation Blog, the PS3 system software update (v3.50) which brings 3D Blu-Ray support to the console is now live and available for download.

This means that users who have kept up to date with firmware releases will now be able to play games and watch video content in 3D, provided they have the requisite television and receiver glasses.

It is however important to note that those users utilising an HDMI cable should have their HDMI control set to ‘automatic’. The console will then pick up that 3D content is being played and make the necessary changes to the system.

The update also brings the following added functionality:

Facebook Integration: Developers will be able to create PS3 games that have more interaction with Facebook. Once compatible PS3 titles are available, PS3 users can choose to access public information on Facebook – including user name, profile, uploaded photos and friends list – to enhance their gameplay experience.

Grief Reporting Function: Users can send claim reports directly from the XMB for any inappropriate messages they receive from other PlayStation Network users. This feature is accessible from the option menu of the messages list in the FRIENDS category.
