Samsung’s upcoming iPad killer, at this stage known only as the Galaxy Tab, is making headlines around the world as its impending release draws closer.

Samsung’s attempts to keep a lid on the eagerly awaited product was foiled this week when a journalist from Electronista.com spotted an anonymous telecoms employee using the device on a Sydney commuter train.

The brief look at the device confirmed that it features a 7” LCD touch-screen and 3G capabilities and was, as the employee called it, “awesome”.

Engadget also spotted the device in China and confirmed that it runs on the Android 2.2 operating system (OS) and has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. The tablet is also reportedly very light and sports a 3.2 megapixel camera and a built-in ebook reader app.

It is believed that the tablet will be powered by a 1.2 GHz A8 processor with 16 GB of internal storage expandable to 32 GB with a MiroSD card.

On the official side, Samsung has released this video which gives a sneak peak of the device. Here the 7” display and Android 2.2 OS rumours are confirmed. It is also revealed that the tablet will support Adobe Flash player, something which the iPad controversially left out. The Galaxy Tab will also be capable of video calling, an aspect that may put it strides ahead of the iPad in many consumers minds.

The tablet is set to be officially revealed on the 2nd of September.
