The Thirty Meter Telescope

The enormous telescope will have a single primary mirror that measures 30 meters across (obviously) which will allow scientists to look into some of the oldest galaxies in the universe.
Mauna Kea was selected out of five possible locations for the telescope after careful analysis of atmosphere and climate variables by scientists.
The telescope is still in an $80 million design phase. Construction is set to begin next year with a planned completion date for 2018 at an estimated cost of $300 million.
