While the Logitech Pebble 2 Combo will appeal to those looking for a bit more than the usual, clunky black (wireless) keyboard, it actually solves a broader problem. If you own a few devices a keyboard is needed for - a PC, a notebook used with a second screen, a smart TV or a tablet, the Pebble 2 allows you to switch between three of them by the press of a button.

It’s a pretty neat feature for a keyboard that is small, portable and stylish enough to drop in your notebook bag or to use in the living room. The Pebble 2 connects via Bluetooth, with Logitech also providing a  dongle to connect via USB if you prefer.

There’s another added extra that is useful – the ability to customise your F-keys. This is done through the Logi Options+ software, allowing edits such as assigning “ctrl+c” to the F4 key, and “ctrl+v” to the F5 one. Logitech goes one step further by also incorporating “Smart Actions”, which means you can launch applications, paste text, or run keystrokes on select keys or on the mouse’s scroller button. This does require you to sign into a Logitech account but can make your keyboard experience a much more productive one, if you invest the time.

Look and feel

The Logitech Pebble 2 Combo is available in a number of interesting colours - pink, white and graphite. The Pebble 2 keyboard feels surprisingly solid and is also quiet when it comes to typing. It’s slightly smaller in layout, but the rounded chiclet keys are easy on the down-press and offers a decent, if somewhat cramped, typing experience.

There’s not much to discuss around the mouse, which looks like the pebble referenced in the combo’s name. It’s pretty much a standard portable mouse that is luckily not too light to hold or noisy when you click, but without any ergonomic, hand-shaped features. If you’re used to working with a full-sized mouse, or if you have big hands, this one might take some time getting used to.

Both the mouse and keyboard are powered via battery, one AA for the mouse and 2x AAA for the keyboard. Yes, having these rechargeable would have been nice, but Logitech notes a two-year battery life for the mouse, with three years as standard for the keyboard. Pretty impressive in our books.

Check the angle

While up to now the Pebble 2 Combo sounds like a solid purchase, there is one thing that takes away some of the shine - the keyboard lacks adjustable feet to vary the typing angle. While the keyboard does have a slight tilt, I found it simply too flat to comfortably type with and had to prop the keyboard up at the back for a more ergonomic angle.

The fact is, of course, that Logitech designed the Pebble 2 Combo for portability. And with the ability to easily connect to any of three devices, it seals the deal if you need this one to use around the house. The keyboard pops easily into a notebook bag and you can assign actions to your F-keys, making the Pebble 2 also a boon for productivity. It's just a shame about the adjustable feet. 

Its convenience comes at a price though, with the Logitech Pebble 2 Combo retailing in the region of R1 600 - at least double that of the Logitech MK295 Silent Wireless Combo (review).
