When you're a tech maker and a board to tinker with is on your mind, the  Raspberry Pi offerings are often the go-to option. ARM specialists 96 Boards, however, is hoping to change that, having recently announced the HiKey 960 board

Basing its design on Huawei's Kirin 960 chipset, which has been utilised in the Chinese company's Mate 9, P10 and P10 Plus devices, the HiKey 960 board is high powered and retails for a suggested $239 (Amazon). 

Shelling out that dosh will get you an octa-core sporting board, split between two quad-cores at 1.8 GHz and 2.4 GHz separately. Added to this is 32 GB of Flash storage, along with a microSD slot, as well as an HDMI interface and support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (4.1) connectivity.
