We've seen shows like Dragon's Den and Shark Tank prove quite successful in the UK, US and even here in SA, which is probably why Apple is trying to get in on the action. The company has reportedly completed filming for its first season of Planet of the Apps, a series that will see app developers and creators pitch to a panel of experts and potential funders.

The prize will be a share of $10 million in funding, along with specific mentorship and the chance for Apple to release the iOS-specific app to its users. The show seems to work in a few stages, the first being an escalator pitch where Jessica Alba, Gwyneth Paltrow, will.i.am and Gary Vaynerchuck will decide of which apps should progress to the next round.

The next stage will be developing the app with one of the judges, and trying to make it work in the real world. Thereafter, an elimination process will take place where creators and their mentor will pitch once again to a venture capitalist panel and winners will eventually be crowned.

There is no precise airdate for Planet of the Apps, but it should be coming to the company's platforms like Apple Music and Apple TV.
