Canon Series: Top Tip - Brendon Jennings
By Staff Writer 13 November 2015 | Categories: sponsored contentAfter hearing about his favourite lens and new gear, we pushed wildlife photographer and guide, Brendon Jennings for a piece of advice that is perhaps not commonly talked about.
Brendon Jennings: I make use of the Custom Function abilities of both the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and 7D Mark II. This allows me to quickly change a setting in situations where I need to do so or miss a shot. As a full time photographic nature guide my focus is always on my guests, so I often neglect settings on my own camera until the last possible moment.
This setup concentrates on two main aspects: panning or motion blur and birds in flight.
My starting point for panning is 1/20th shutter speed, auto aperture (TV mode) and auto ISO with the centre cluster selected. For birds in flight it is 1/600th shutter speed, f6.3 and auto ISO with the centre cluster selected (manual mode). The third custom setting slot I assign to shooting at night with a spotlight, so it’s full manual, 1/125th shutter speed, f3.5 and 1600 ISO.
