Log into your WhatsApp this morning, and there should be a new tool to play with, although you might not immediately be aware of its existence. Now, WhatsApp allows users to format text, adding bold, italics or strikethrough when the mood hits them.

These new features will be available to both iOS and Android users, via an automatic update, but their use requires very specific inputs in order to work. To make text bold, you'll need to place asterisks on either end of the words in question, *bold*. For italics, enter an underscore at the beginning and end, _italics_. Lastly, for strikethroughs, type in tildes in on either end, ~strikethrough~.

While we're unsure if WhatsAppers will be keen to put these new features into use, given the popularity of emoji to add emphasis to a message, try it out for yourself and let us know what you think.
