Facebook Live is one of the social media platform's more interesting offerings. The live streaming tool has proved particularly popular with news broadcasters, but some have been yearning for the ability to create longer live broadcasts from a mobile device. To that end, Facebook recently updated Live with two new key features.

The first allows users to hide comments when live streaming. While having interactions with followers is no doubt important, it can be a little distracting when trying to stream. This feature will be facilitated via a video-only mode that Facebook will soon roll out to iOS and Android devices.

The other significant update is the extension of broadcast times. When the update hits users, they'll be able to broadcast for up to four hours per session. As such, for reporters live streaming from an event, or vloggers creating content, this will no doubt be great news.

Lastly, Facebook will be adding a full screen mode to Live. As Engadget notes though, the full screen functionality will vary between operating systems'. On iOS for example, full screen can be engaged for both portrait or landscape streaming, whereas Android will only do portrait for now.

If Facebook wants its Live app to be as popular as Periscope, these improvements should help.
