First trailer for IT horror floats
By Staff Writer 30 March 2017 | Categories: news“You’ll float too!” Uhm, no thanks, we’ll rather stay high and dry and as far away from the sewers as possible. That’s after the first teaser trailer for IT has been released, with the dreaded Pennywise making a return to our collective consciousness. Based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel, IT first featured on screen in 1990 as a mini-series. This time round the movie will be in two parts too, with Wikipedia noting the movie title as It: Part 1 – The Losers' Club. The Losers’ Club is a reference to kids who go toe-to-toe with clown/demon/pure evil Pennywise, who is tied to a number of disappearances in the town of Maine.
Much has been said about Tim Curry’s original performance as the clown, with even a documentary due on this soon. That’s why all eyes will be on Bill Skarsgård (Hemlock Grove), with the actor quite aware of the pressure, stating, “I'll never be able to make a Tim Curry performance as good as Tim Curry." For that reason he had other ideas in mind for Pennywise.
The movie is helmed by Andrés Muschietti, known for his conjuring on horror Mama. Previously Cary Fukunaga (first season of True Detective) was tied to the project but left, with the Duffer Brothers apparently turned down, since they were at that stage unknown. They have, of course, now made a name for themselves with Stranger Things. From the trailer, IT seems to have a similar vibe, but with fans warned to expect more gore this time round, with the miniseries avoiding blood and splatter as much as possible.
For horror fans IT should already be on the must-watch list. For those still not in the loop, check the trailer below, preferably with the lights turned up. The movie is due for release 8 September Stateside.
