It seems like the good times are back again for Nintendo, with the company returning to profit for the first time in four years. According to Gamespot, the company showed a ¥41 billion ($350 million) profit for the fiscal year ending March 31, off the back of “robust” sales for Pokemon Alpha Sapphire (9.94 million units) and Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 3DS (6.8 million). The company pegs global sales of the Nintendo 3DS console family at a decent 8.73 million units, while the Wii U stands at 3.38 million (the Wii did a staggering 101.17 million in its lifetime). 

The company also had some good news for gamers waiting to hear about the company’s much heralded move towards smartphones. The Verge reports that one game will be available before year’s end, with four more making their way by March 2017. None of these will be ports of current titles, with Nintendo CEO and president, Satoru Iwata noting that it doesn’t match the play styles of smart devices, while the titles’ business models also differ.

For many gamers this might come as a disappointment, with five titles not exactly a full catalogue either. Iwata, however, believes, "You may think it is a small number, but when we aim to make each title a hit, and because we want to thoroughly operate every one of them for a significant amount of time after their releases, this is not a small number at all and should demonstrate our serious commitment to the smart device business."

In further Nintendo news, Wired reports on Nintendo teaming up with Universal Parks & Resorts to create Nintendo-themed attractions inside Universal’s parks. While we would love to see real live Donkey Kong obstacle courses or a Mario Kart racetrack, we doubt if you’ll find many of Mario’s special mushrooms that make you grow bigger.
