Power lacing Nike MAG's from Back to the Future becoming reality in 2016
By Robin-Leigh Chetty 22 October 2015 | Categories: newsCalling all sneakerheads, this might just be the best sneaker of the decade, let alone 2016, when it is set to release. For those who were off the grid yesterday, it was Back to the Future Day, commemorating the iconic film franchise of the 80s and 90s.
One of the more memorable scenes from Back to the Future Part II (the best one in our opinion) sees Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) land in the future of 21 October 2015. McFly dons a pair of Nike sneakers, and just before he tries to lace them up, they do the job for him. Ever since then, sneakerheads having been baying for the Nike MAG self lacing shoes.
Nike dropped a few subtle hints about two days ago, tweeting the message that they would be seeing Michael J. Fox the following day.
.@realmikefox see you tomorrow.

As it turns out, Nike kept its word, and turned up at Fox's house with the first pair of commercial NIke MAG self lacing shoes in hand. The shoes, along with lacing once the wearer places their foot inside of them, also replicate the sound they made during the 1989 film.
According to Hypebeast, the Nike MAG shoes will go up for auction in March or April 2016, with all the proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Sadly, the number of MAG's going up for auction are unknown. Offering some respite however, Nike says that self lacing technology is still in its infancy, with the potential to be introduced into other shoe lineups.
